The all-new Kia Sportage will show a dramatic shift in design direction when it makes its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show on 2 March, 2010.

Embodying Kia’s new visual dynamism, all-new Sportage is a fresh, bold, athletic and sporty design that blends the key features of an SUV – the commanding driving position, heightened sense of security and raised ground clearance – in a sleek and urban-friendly design.

Longer, lower and wider than the previous generation model, all-new Sportage will offer more space for people and cargo, with improved ride quality thanks to a longer wheelbase.

Michael Cole, Managing Director of Kia Motors (UK) Ltd., said: “Sportage was the car that really made the breakthrough for Kia in Europe and the all-new version will make people sit up and take notice just as the original did. I am convinced it will begin a remarkable new chapter in the Kia story.”

The all-new Sportage comes to the UK later this year, with a range of highly competitive diesel and petrol engines.

The world premiere of the all-new Sportage will take place at 08.45 on 2 March, 2010 on the Kia Stand (No 6441) in Hall 6 at the Geneva International Motor Show.

Japan Transport Ministry orders Toyota to Investigate 14 Complaints Over Prius Brakes

The Japanese government said Wednesday that it has ordered Toyota to investigate a possible defect in its new Prius hybrid model after receiving 14 reports of brake trouble, another blow for an automaker already embroiled in its biggest-ever recall.

Drivers complained that the brakes on Toyota’s newest Prius momentarily stopped working at low speeds, especially on slippery surfaces, said Kenji Sato, a Transport Ministry official in charge of recall policy.

In one incident in July 2009, a new Prius crashed head on into another vehicle at an intersection, hurting two people in that car. Ten of the 14 complaints about the new Prius, which went on sale in Japan in May, came in January.

A Toyota spokesman, Takanori Yokoi, said dealers in North America and Japan had received “several tens” of reports from customers who said their Priuses had “braked insufficiently” on bumpy or frozen roads.

The automaker is still investigating and is not in a position to release more details, including whether a recall will be necessary, Mr. Yokoi said.

The Prius is the best-selling car in Japan, and the popularity of the Prius had been a bright spot in a global auto industry still reeling from the bankruptcies of General Motors and Chrysler.

The possible fault with the Prius’s brakes follows a widening recall involving 4.5 million cars by Toyota, the world’s No. 1 automaker, over gas pedals that could become stuck while driving.

Zhengzhou Nissan toPorduce 2010 X-trail and 2010 Qashqai

Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile Co., Ltd., one of the two Chinese joint ventures of Nissan Motor
Co., Ltd. will produce X-trail and Qashqai, two SUV models, for its sister company Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company.

A top executive of Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. (DFL) has not denied the story, only saying that the plan is currently under feasibility study and will be released in the summer of 2010, when the new plant of Zhengzhou Nissan starts production.

This year, besides NV200, a new car model that is going to be rolled out, Zhengzhou Nissan will acquire the sales right of another imported car model from Nissan. By far, Nissan (China) Investment Co., Ltd. has held talks with some major dealers for the sale.

Currently, Zhengzhou Nissan is selling SUV Paladin, pick-up trucks, minivans, and light-duty truck Cabstar. After the launch of NV200, the company plans to divide its sales network according to target customers.

Zhengzhou Nissan’s plan is to boost the number of its sales outlets from 170 to 200 around China. Last year, the company sold 56,600 vehicles, rising 20% from a year earlier.

Available in three body styles — Sedan, Sport (five-door hatchback) and Sport Wagon — Mazda’s globally acclaimed mid-size car has been refined and evolved, and it goes on sale today at all Mazda and Mazda Anfini dealerships throughout Japan.

The Mazda Atenza has attracted a wide range of customers with its sporty styling and exceptional driving performance. The enhancements for the freshened Mazda Atenza are based on the Zoom-Zoom evolution development concept, and include improvements to its environmental and safety attributes, driving performance, interior and exterior design, and quality levels.

The 2.0-liter engine Atenza models, available in both the Sedan and Sport Wagon body types, have been updated with Mazda’s direct injection MZR 2.0L DISI*1 gasoline engine. This engine provides plenty of power as well as outstanding fuel economy that exceeds Japan’s “2010 fuel economy standard plus 15%.” All grades equipped with a 2.0-liter engine qualify for Japan’s eco-car incentive program and are subject to 50 percent less tax under the government’s eco-car tax reduction program. Additionally, the entire Atenza range, including front-wheel drive (FWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) grades, qualify as Super-Ultra-Low Emission Vehicles (SU-LEV) by achieving exhaust emissions that are at least 75 percent lower than the levels set in the Japanese Government’s 2005 exhaust emissions standard.

This new prestigious notchback tailored for the Chinese market will serve to reinforce Dong Feng Peugeot’s product offer on the M1 segment that accounts for over 45 % of the total market.

In this manner, the new Peugeot DF 408 should enable the Lion Marque to increase its sales volumes by over 30% in 2010, compared with 2009, and thereby to grow at twice the forecast pace of the market.

This half-height architecture notch-back saloon has been designed and developed jointly by Peugeot’s Styling teams in Europe and China and meets three objectives: embody the Marque’s modernity, guarantee maximum safety and offer unrivalled interior space.

The 408 name follows the Lion Marque’s traditional naming logic. The figure 4 refers to the size of the car (4.68 m) and its positioning in the medium-luxury family saloon segment. The 0 in the middle signifies that it belongs to the Peugeot Marque, while the 8 expresses the vehicle generation.

With this name, the 408 naturally falls into place within the current Peugeot range and becomes the forerunner of the 8 series, the latest generation vehicles to be launched on the Chinese market.

The Dong Feng Peugeot 408 is the fruit of work by the joint venture set up between PSA Peugeot CitroĂ«n and the Chinese group DFM. The car is being produced at the Wuhan plant in Hubei province in China. It is positioned to become one of the market’s benchmark vehicles with a full-year sales target of 100,000 units
