KUALA LUMPUR (Thomson Financial) - Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Tuesday that German auto giant Volkswagen is seeking management control over Malaysia’s state-owned Proton as it negotiates an alliance.

‘They have been discussing about it but we have not yet decided on that,’ Abdullah said when reporters asked if Volkswagen (other-otc: VLKAF.PK - news - people ) was eyeing management control of the loss-making firm.

Abdullah, who is also finance minister, said Malaysia was keen to wrap up the protracted negotiations as quickly as possible.

Honda Automobile Thailand will become the largest assembler in the Asean region next year when its new Bt6.2billion plant comes online. It will then attempt to make its badge the “most admired” in Thailand by 2010.
The company’s second plant, located in Ayutthaya, will double Honda’s annual production to 240,000 units.
