News that the United Auto Workers failed to reach a contract agreement with auto-maker Chrysler caused small but significant movement in the auto loan-only credit default swap sector. On news of the strike this morning, Ford Motor Co. LCDS, which were trading at 300-320 widened about 5-10 points. General Motors Corp. Ford LCDS were quoted at 315-330 at day’s end last Wednesday as news hit the market that the UAW and GM had come to a tentative contract agreement, ending that UAW strike. GM LCDS ended that day trading at 275-285, significantly wider than this week’s 235-240 figures, and Chrysler LCDS were trading at 375-390 at the end of the day last Wednesday.
