BMW CS concept comes to really fighting for Mercedes-Benz CLS

CS is Coming Soon

Do you remember that gorgeous BMW CS concept that emerged a couple of months ago? Well, it now looks set to return as a production-ready successor to the 8-Series.

At the Tokyo Motor Show, BMW’s North American CEO Tom Purves announced that the company will build a production model of the CS Concept that was unveiled earlier this year. Rumour has it that the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Maserati Quattroporte-fighting CS Concept, which is expected to debut in Frankfurt next year, will most likely carry the 8-Series badge and will be the equivalent of a four-door GT.

This announcement puts an end to the reports that said a production model would never see the light of day. In fact, BMW seems exceptionally eager to build this model. “Our dealers, having seen the photos, are very excited,” Purves said. “They love it. If media and dealers like it, there’s a good chance the customers will.”

Nissan considering $3,000 super low-cost to global and USA

Bajaj Auto will lead the three-way exclusive global alliance with Renault-Nissan for the $3,000 small car project. Sources said the current agreement is that Bajaj will lead the project and Renault-Nissan will support it.

Bajaj will be involved not just in the development and manufacturing of the car but also in its marketing and distribution, using its existing network of two-wheeler dealers. However, the alliance with Bajaj will only focus on light vehicles, both passenger and cargo. Which means, Nissan may be looking for another Indian partner to market and distribute its high-end range of cars.

Renault-Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn, who is all set to come to India next week to formally announce Nissan’s commercial vehicle partnership with Ashok Leyland, will be meeting the Bajaj brass on October 29 and will also be visiting its Chakan plant.

Honda to launch low-cost prices hybrid in 2009

CHIBA, Japan — Japan’s Honda Motor Co. plans to release a more affordable hybrid car by 2009, hoping to boost sales among consumers who now find eco-friendly vehicles too expensive.

Japanese automakers pioneered hybrid-engine cars such as Honda’s Civic Hybrid, which save fuel costs and have proven to be major hits at a time of soaring oil prices.

Honda showed to the Tokyo Motor Show the CR-Z concept car, a lightweight sports model with a hybrid engine.

“Honda plans to release a new hybrid vehicle in 2009 that is more affordable than the Civic Hybrid,” Takeo Fukui, president of Japan’s second largest automaker, told reporters at the industry show held in Tokyo’s outskirts.

“In addition to that model, we are continuing development so that we will be able to release to the market a vehicle based on the CR-Z concept,” Fukui said.

The Nikkei business daily, quoting unnamed company sources, said that Honda would release the lower-priced hybrid in 2009 across the world, including Japan, the United States, Europe and China.

With the new model, Honda hopes to raise global hybrid sales 10 times from last year’s figure, reaching up to 500,000 cars by 2010, the newspaper said.

Nissan hopes to launch US$2,500 car in India in 2010

CHIBA, Japan : Nissan and Renault hope to start selling a car for about US$2,500 in India in around 2010 along with their local partner there, chief executive Carlos Ghosn said on Wednesday.

“We have already practically decided all the attributes of the car,” Ghosn told reporters at the Tokyo Motor Show.

“We have the full intention to do it - if it’s feasible. Hopefully this is going to be 2010 in India,” he said.

Ghosn, who heads both Japan’s Nissan Motor Co. and its French partner Renault, said he would visit Indian partner Bajaj Auto next week for talks on the car.

He said that it appeared possible to make a US$2,500 car for India, but the big question was whether it could be exported to other markets such as Europe, China, Brazil, Mexico or even the United States.

Bajaj conside Renault Joint Venture in 2 months to make $3,000 cars

MUMBAI (Reuters) - A feasibility study by Bajaj Auto Ltd, India’s No. 2 motorcycle maker, and France’s Renault on making a small car in India should be ready within two months, a senior Bajaj official said on Friday.

Renault and Bajaj said in July they were in initial talks on making “very competitive” vehicles in India.

“Right now, it looks like the study will be done in six to eight weeks,” Executive Director Sanjiv Bajaj told Reuters by telephone.

“Depending on the outcome, we will then make a decision on how to proceed,” he said, without giving further details.

Renault, which also has a joint venture with Mahindra & Mahindra to make the no-frills Logan sedan in India, has said it was looking at the viability of a $3,000 car to compete with a cheaper car that Tata Motors is making.

Renault, Nissan Motor and Mahindra also have an alliance to make 400,000 vehicles in a plant in southern India from the second half of 2009.

It has been reported that Bajaj, which also makes motorised three-wheelers and is developing its first four-wheel vehicle, a cargo carrier, would make the engine for the proposed small car.

Bajaj has been reported as saying the engine may be displayed at India’s Auto Expo in January, when the Tata car is also expected to be unveiled ahead of its launch later in the year.

Earlier on Friday, Bajaj posted a better-than-expected 6 percent rise in net profit to 3.36 billion rupees ($85 million) in the fiscal second quarter to Sept. 30.

Officially 2008-2009 Nissan GT-R in 2007 tokyo motor show

PRESS RELEASE:
NISSAN ANNOUNCES NEW NISSAN GT-R
- New Dimensional Multi-Performance Supercar Available in Early December –

TOKYO (Oct. 24, 2007) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today announced the launch of the Nissan GT-R, a new multi-dimensional performance machine that lives up to the concept of “an ultimate supercar for anyone, anywhere, at anytime”. The Nissan GT-R features a newly developed Premium Midship package, including the world’s first independent transaxle 4WD developed independently by Nissan. The Nissan GT-R will be available in Japan mainly through Nissan High Performance Centers nationwide from December 6th.

The Nissan GT-R was developed with a new understanding and appreciation of the Earth’s natural forces – gravity, inertial force and aerodynamics – and translates those forces into a completely new design, maximizing tire grip and airflow.

Basic vehicle dynamics and integration with the driver have also been examined, resulting in new componentry and creating a Human-Machine Interface (HMI) never seen before in the marketplace. All of these theories have been integrated to balance “speed and efficiency,” “high-output with environmental consideration” and “high performance and safety.”

Taking these factors into account, Nissan created the all-new Nissan GT-R, which offers advanced high performance for secure and enjoyable driving by minimizing the effects of climatic, road condition or driving technique limitations. The Nissan GT-R offers ultimate performance for virtually every driving situation – whether it be the Nurburgring circuit, to snow, rain or urban areas – all manageable by the GT-R driver through advanced technology and driving dynamics.
