DETROIT - Jan. 13, 2008 - Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., returns to its compact pickup truck roots with its latest concept vehicle A-BAT. The environmentally advanced A-BAT provides modern versatility, roominess and style in a compact pickup architecture. The A-BAT made its debut in Detroit at the 2008 North American International Auto Show today.

SAINT PETERSBURG, Dec. 21, 2007 (Thomson Financial delivered by Newstex) — Toyota Motor Corp inaugurated a new car assembly plant in Saint Petersburg on Friday as the Russian car market booms and the Japanese automaker aims to become the biggest producer in the world.

Toyota CEO Katsuaki Watanabe attended the opening of the Shushary plant, which will assemble around 20,000 Toyota Camry vehicles per year. Russian President Vladimir Putin was due to tour the factory later Friday.

‘There has been unprecedented growth in the Russian market. It has doubled in the last five years. We think the potential of the market is enormous,’ Watanabe said at the ceremony.

December 19, 2007 - Torrance, CA - Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., will stage the world premiere of the all-new 2009 Toyota Venza crossover sedan at a press conference at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Venza will be a unique blend of sedan and sport utility vehicle, offering seating for five, easy ingress and egress, a car-like ride and functional utility. Venza was designed and engineered in the United States and will be assembled at Toyota’s manufacturing plant in Georgetown, Kentucky.

The press conference will be held on Monday, January 14 at 10:50 AM Eastern Time in the Riverview Ballroom at COBO Center and simulcast live to the Toyota display area at the show. A video clip of the press conference will be available for viewing following the event on the Toyota.com website.

So far we’ve known the upcoming Mini SUV, or SAV, as the Mini Colorado. However in a recent conversation with Auto Motor und Sport, Mini’s CEO said that the Colorado is only the working title. When the next Mini variant hits the roads in 2010, it may carry the name ‘Crossman.’

Engine sizes for the Mini SAV are expected to start at 1.4 liter and will go up to 1.6 liter. A 2.0 liter variant could also be in the works.

BMW will be outsourcing production of the SUV to Magna International. The Mini Crossman is expected to hit the roads around 2010 with 80,000 units planned annually.

Nissan officials have denied that the company has made such a decision, but in an interview in the latest issue of Newsweek magazine, the OEM’s chief executive, Carlos Ghosn, states that production of the company’s full-sized pick-up truck may be axed.
