August 5th, 2008 — car loan news

You know the economy is bad when a house given away for free by ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is headed for foreclosure. While we hear a lot about the mortgage mess, there’s also big trouble afoot in the auto loan industry.
Turns out, Detroit’s Big Three want out of the car leasing business. Chrysler announced it first, then three days later, both Ford and General Motors leaked word that they, too, were backing away from leasing. This is a sea change in auto buying.
Since the early 1990s, leases have allowed consumers to take possession, albeit temporarily, of cars they couldn’t afford to buy. Automakers were thrilled because leases allowed them to expand the pool of potential buyers; created constant demand for new cars; and they were hugely profitable. After charging someone rent on the car for a couple of years, the automakers would take the car back and sell it used for a hefty profit.

Drivers in the UK should be paid to switch their gas-guzzling vehicles for greener models, it has been claimed.
The government is looking into ways to get motorists to swap their environmentally-unfriendly cars for eco-conscious ones, which could also save drivers in road tax costs.
Car credit customers driving vehicles currently in Band F - including the Citroen C8, Renault Espace and VW Passat can expect to pay up to £455 in tax by 2010.
However, Conservative Party member Tim Yeo has commeneted that the government needs to make sure its plans do not victimise certain driving demographics.
“The Treasury must also work to ensure these changes are not unfair to vulnerable groups. This includes looking at paying people to trade in their existing high-emission cars,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Guardian has reported that Nissan is currently developing a foot pedal which pushes back on motorists’ feet when it detects poor fuel efficiency in the vehicle.

Guangzhou Honda Accord were sale 17,191 units in july 2008
While China’s passenger vehicle market began to slide in July, Guangzhou Honda, a joint venture between Guangzhou Auto and Honda Motor, bucked the trend by selling 30,148 vehicles, up 57.09% over the previous month, said xinhuanet.com today.
Of the top 15 Chinese makers of passenger vehicles by sales in July, only Guangzhou Honda sold more vehicles over June, and the nearly 57.1% growth rate shows the company is gathering strong sales momentum. Industry experts said that this extraordinary achievement is mostly attributed to the good sales of the 8th-generation Accord sedan and the all-new Fit sedan.
