August 6th, 2008 — GM, Opel, chevrolet
General Motors Corp. plans to sell a version of its Volt plug-in hybrid vehicle in Europe by late 2011 and may need sales incentives because of the high cost of the new technology, the automaker’s chief for the region said.
The European version initially will be under the Opel and Vauxhall brands and then later as a Chevrolet, Carl-Peter Forster said in a posting on a GM blog. Chevrolet Volt production is to begin in late 2010 for the United States, he said.
“This assumes that we will continue to attain all of our goals and milestones for the battery and integration of the power electronics,” Forster said in the posting.

Geico, the largest provider of auto insurance in the state, has agreed to withdraw a rate increase request for New York drivers.
The insurer had requested a rate increase with the State Insurance Department for Geico and Geico General, which together write more than 75 percent of the company’s auto insurance policies in the state. The withdrawal followed a discussion with the state Insurance Department on how higher gas prices are reducing the number of miles New York motorists drive.

Dongfeng Nissan’s latest data show that the sales of its new-generation Teana had exceeded 8,000 units by July 16, just one month after the new model was launched on June 16. This figure has set a new high in the monthly sales of the Teana brand and is also the biggest first-month-after-launch sales of any Chinese-made mid- to high-end sedan, reported China Youth Daily today.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car named chief operating officer Pamela Nicholson its new president Monday.
Nicholson, 48, succeeds Donald Ross, 64, said chairman and chief executive Andrew Taylor.
Nicholson will retain her role as Enterprise’s COO and as a member of the board of directors of Crawford Group, Enterprise’s parent company. Ross will continue as vice chairman of the company and its board of directors.
Nicholson will oversee all of Enterprise’s transportation businesses, including Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental, Alamo Rent-A-Car, Enterprise Fleet Management, Enterprise Car Sales and Enterprise Commercial Truck Rental.
