Lincoln MKT to be announced at Pebble Beach
August 17th, 2008 — Lincorn, ford
Ford will use the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance—the top “car show” for classic cars—this weekend to announce that a production version of the Lincoln MKT concept shown at the Detroit Auto Show last January will go into production.
The MKT concept was a 3-row luxury crossover capable of seating up to seven passengers and the production version will follow that basic layout. The styling should be close to the concept’s as well, in keeping with Lincoln’s current design theme. The MKT will be built on the same platform as Ford’s Flex crossover, which means that there will be substantial differences between the Lincoln and the two-box Ford.

Toyota expects bigger share
August 17th, 2008 — toyota

Toyota Motor Corp. expects to gain U.S. market share, but it will not match last year’s U.S. sales record, a top executive said Thursday.
Bob Carter, group vice president and general manager of Toyota’s U.S. sales arm, said 2008 will be the first time in 17 years that Toyota will not beat the prior year’s total sales in the United States.
“As the sales and marketing representative, I’d love to have 18, but it’s just not realistic in this environment,” Carter said.
Toyota sold more than 2.6 million Toyota, Lexus and Scion cars and trucks in the United States last year. This year, Carter said, Toyota believes it will sell up to 2.45 million vehicles, a decrease of at least 5.7%.
GM parade celebrates a 100-year history
August 17th, 2008 — GM

Al Smith spent the last 12 years filling in the shell of his cherry-red 1957 2-door Chevrolet Bel Air.
And today, it became a part of history, driving in a parade of 100 General Motors Corp. vehicles to celebrate the automaker’s 100-year history at the Woodward Dream Cruise.
“These cars are automotive art,” said Smith, whose wife is a financial manager at GM, which was founded almost 100 years ago – on Sept. 16, 1906.
