Corporate logo with new tagline (for overseas markets)
Today Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced a new global tagline in order to clarify across all markets its direction for the future. The tagline, “Drive@earth,” will be launched first in Japan during the summer of 2008, and is intended to convey two major themes:
First, Drive@earth means that automobiles connect us to the world. Mitsubishi’s 4WD legacy has catapulted a generation of drivers to every corner of the earth, from desert dunes to city streets. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation will unveil, for the first time at an international motor show, the Lancer Sportback at the Le Mondial de l’Automobile 2008 (Paris Motor Show 2008) being held in Halls 1-8 of the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles from October 2 (October 4 for the general public) through October 19. The Lancer Sportback will have its European launch this fall with a phased introduction into the various countries in the region.
The company will also be displaying the Lancer Ralliart and Lancer Sportback Ralliart models that are based on the Lancer*1 sports sedan and Lancer Sportback. These models are powered by a turbocharged engine mated to Mitsubishi’s Twin Clutch SST (Sport Shift Transmission) and delivering power to all four wheels through an Active Center Differential.

Mitsubishi Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroën of France said Monday that they would set up a joint venture in Russia to produce cars starting in 2011.
The factory in Kaluga, located 180 kilometers, or 110 miles, southwest of Moscow, will produce midrange sport utility vehicles for the Mitsubishi, Peugeot and Citroën brands, as well as midsize Peugeot and Citroën vehicles, with an overall capacity of 160,000 vehicles.
Production is due to start in 2011, the companies said.
The two automakers had separate deals with the Russian government granting them financial incentives to assemble cars in the country, and had said they were open to joining hands with undisclosed partners.

Japan’s Mitsubishi Motors says it is developing a low-priced car to be sold in China and Thailand as well as in the European market.
The car, expected to be priced at below one million yen ($9,650), would be based on a 660cc platform that is currently used only in Japan, Reuters quoted the company’s President, Osamu Masuko, as saying at the Beijing Auto Show.

Thailand Wednesday approved granting tax privileges to automobile-makers Mitsubishi, Toyota and Tata to invest a combined 16.6 billion baht (536 million dollars) to produce more than 300,000 eco-cars for the domestic and export markets.
Thailand’s Board of Investment (BoI) Secretary General Sathit Chanchouwakul said the three companies would be ready to begin operations within two to four years.
Volkswagen, which has also submitted a proposal to produce eco-cars in Thailand, was not included among the approvals granted by BoI Wednesday.
The Mitsubishi project promised to invest 4.7 billion baht to produce 107,000 eco-cars in Thailand, 88 per cent for export, while Toyota will invest 4.6 billion baht to make 100,000 units by 2012, 50 per cent for export, and India’s Tata Motor has pledged to invest 7.3 billion baht to make 100,000 units by 2010, of which 52 per cent will be exported.

Tokyo (dpa) - Japanese automakers have applied to produce environmentally conscious eco-cars in Thailand, The Nikkei reported Friday.
Toyota Motor Corp and Mitsubishi Motors Corp plan to expand production capacity in Thailand and to begin manufacturing about 100,000 units of environmentally-friendly cars every year from 2010.
Toyota intends to invest about 17 billion yen (151.83 million dollars) and make the total of investment about 20 billion yen, Japan’s business daily said.
The Thai government has decided to give tax breaks to automakers that produce eco-cars with 1.3-litre or smaller gasoline engines and fuel efficiency of 20 kilometres per litre.
Honda Motor Co, Suzuki Motor Corp and Nissan Motor Co have already received permission for their production plans. They plan to begin manufacturing eco-cars as early as 2010 in Thailand.

The 2008 NAIAS runs from January 13 to 27 at the Cobo Center in Detroit and opens to the general public on January 19.

Tokyo, October 29, 2007 — Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced global production, as well as domestic sales and export figures for September 2007 and for the first half of fiscal 2007.September 2007
Total global production came in at 124,145 units, an increase of 16.4 percent over September 2006 and marking the seventh consecutive monthly increase since March this year. Production volume in Japan increased 20.9 percent to 75,934 units, the twelfth consecutive month of year-on-year growth. This growth was driven by increased output of the new Lancer for the Russian, North American, and Middle East and African markets and of the new Outlander for the U.S., European and Chinese markets.
Vehicle sales in Japan in September totaled 22,515 units, an 18.9 percent decrease year-on-year and the first downturn since July. Passenger car (registrations and mini-car) sales of 17,160 units and commercial vehicle sales of 5,355 units were 17.3 percent and 23.9 percent down respectively on the same month last year.
Overseas production volume totaled 48,211 units, 9.9 percent up over September last year. In Europe production came in at 5,651 units or 24.8 percent down on last year’s figure. In North America production at 5,339 units was 35.0 percent down on last year. In Asia production at 31,961 units was 29.1 percent up on September 2006 driven by a 28.0 percent increase in export shipments of the L200 pick-up truck from Thailand and an overall 24.6 percent increase in output at Mitsubishi Motors Thailand.
Total exports from Japan of 56,448 units were 45.9 percent up on September 2006, marking the eleventh consecutive month of year-on-year increases and setting a new record mark for September since Mitsubishi Motors spun off its truck and bus operations in 2003. Exports to Europe rose to 27,709 units, a very substantial 171.0 percent increase on the back of buoyant sales in Russia, the Ukraine and central Europe. Exports to Asia fell to 2,641 units, a 14.4 percent decrease over the same period last year. Exports to North America of 4,823 units were 22.4 percent down on September 2006.
