General Motors Corp. Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said last week that the automaker has chosen a supplier for the much anticipated Chevrolet Volt range-extended electric car, but he wouldn’t identify it. The company has been working closely with two groups to develop a durable, reliable and safe lithium-ion battery .
Compact Power Inc. and LG Chem are one partnership. Continental Automotive Systems and A123 Systems are another.
While Compact Power was the first to deliver a battery pack to GM for testing, a A123 Systems representative sat on a panel about advanced propulsion with the Volt’s battery czar at a recent seminar in Traverse City. The tea leaves are fickle. The race continues.
